How to Collect Technical Logs with Request Video

Automatic data log collection gives teams the technical context they need to troubleshoot and escalate issues without asking customers for extra details.

This article explains what’s included in the logs, how to use the feature, and how Admins can manage default settings.

How to Set up a Logs Collection:

Follow these steps:

  1. Install a snippet on the pages you want your users to be able to collect logs from.
  2. Within the settings, enter the domain of your page. We only support one domain at the moment. Please let us know if you need more.

How It Works

  1. Create a Request Video link from your Zight dashboard, click Request Video, and generate a new link.
  2. Send the link to a user or customer they’ll be able to record and submit a video without needing to sign up or install anything.
  3. Zight automatically captures session data when the video is submitted, logs are recorded in the background, and no additional steps are required.
  4. View logs in your Zight dashboard go to the submitted video and look for the “Session Logs” section. You'll see browser, OS, and log data next to the video for review or export.

Who Should Use This Feature

This feature is especially useful for:

  • Customer Success – Escalate tickets with clear technical context
  • Support Teams – Reduce back-and-forth and speed up resolutions
  • Engineering & QA – Replicate and resolve bugs using real-world data

Admin Controls: Setting Defaults

Workspace Admins can manage whether data logs are collected by default with Request Video links. To change this setting:

  1. Go to Workspace Settings > Request Video Defaults
  2. Enable or disable Data Log Collection
  3. Save changes to apply the setting team-wide

This helps ensure consistency in how technical issues are reported and escalated across your organization.

FAQs

Can I turn this feature off? Yes. Admins can disable log collection in workspace settings if needed.

Is any sensitive or personal data collected? No. Zight only collects session-level technical data (e.g. browser, OS, logs). No personal or account data is included unless it’s part of the user’s video submission.
