Overview
Sometimes you start a recording and immediately realize it’s not quite right — wrong window selected, mic wasn’t on, or you just want a cleaner take. Restart Video lets you retake instantly without stopping, waiting for the upload to process, and starting a new recording from scratch.
With one click, Zight discards the current recording and starts a fresh one using the exact same settings. No re-configuration required.
When to use Restart Video
- You started recording the wrong screen or region
- Your microphone wasn’t enabled when you hit record
- You want a cleaner take immediately after starting
- You’re doing multiple retakes for a tutorial or walkthrough
Steps
During an active recording:
- Click the Restart button in the recording toolbar.
- Zight will immediately discard the in-progress recording.
- A new recording begins automatically using the same settings (region, audio, webcam preferences).
No upload, no processing, no delay.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use Restart Video for quick retakes — it’s much faster than stopping, discarding, and starting over manually.
- Your recording settings (region size, audio source, webcam) are preserved exactly — no need to reconfigure.
- The discarded recording is not saved or uploaded.
Troubleshooting
- Restart button not visible? Ensure you are running Zight 8.2 or later on Windows. The Restart option appears in the recording toolbar only during an active recording.
