Set your default recording layout with Viewer Preferences

Viewer Preferences lets you choose the default layout for opening recordings in Zight: Video, Logs, Summary, or Let Zight Decide. You can also change the layout for an individual recording without changing your account default.

Set your default viewer layout

1. Open your profile menu and select Settings.
2. Under Personal Settings, select Viewer Preferences.
3. Choose the layout you want.
4. Select Save Viewer Preferences.

If your preferred layout is unavailable for a recording, Zight uses an available layout instead. This is why selecting Logs does not make a Logs view appear on a recording without logs.

What this setting affects

This is your account-level default for the recording viewer, not a workspace-wide policy. It does not change recording quality, playback speed, sharing permissions, or who can access your content. It does not turn log collection or AI summary generation on or off.

A specific recording can open differently from your default. Zight considers available layouts in this order:

1. A layout explicitly requested in the link.
2. A layout saved for that recording.
3. Your Viewer Preferences default.
4. Automatic selection from the available layouts.

Change the layout for one recording

Open the recording and use its viewer layout control to switch between the available modes. If you own the recording or have editing access, Zight saves the selected layout for that recording. Guests and view-only viewers change the layout for their current session only. Changing an individual recording's layout does not update your Viewer Preferences default.

Check that your preference was saved

After selecting Save Viewer Preferences, reload Settings and return to Viewer Preferences. Your selected option should remain selected. The example below shows Let Zight Decide after saving and reloading.

Troubleshooting

• A recording ignores my default: Check whether its link requests a specific mode or the recording already has a saved layout. Also check that the requested mode is available.
• I cannot see Logs: The recording needs technical logs. Viewer Preferences does not add them to an existing video.
• I cannot see Summary: The recording needs summary content or eligible processing in progress. Viewer Preferences is separate from your Zight AI settings.
• I am viewing logs on mobile: Zight may ask you to switch to a desktop to inspect the logs.
