How to Add Captions and Transcriptions to Your Zight Videos

Overview

Captions enhance the accessibility and discoverability of your videos. Zight provides English transcripts for your videos and screen recordings, allowing audiences to read along or search through the video content easily. This feature is available on current paid plans — Create, Collaborate, or Scale — based on plan limits, or on legacy plans with the AI add-on.

Steps

1. Finish Recording Your Video

   Once you've completed recording, you can begin the process to add captions and generate a transcription.

2. Access the Zight Viewer

   Navigate to your video in the Zight viewer to begin the transcription process.

3. Request Transcription

   Click on the Transcription option located below the video description box, then click Request Transcription.

4. Receive Notification

   You will receive an email notification once your transcription and captions are ready.

   

5. Enable and View Captions

   Return to the video in the Zight viewer to read the transcription and enable captions by clicking the “㏄” icon at the lower right corner of the video player.

   

6. Utilize Transcription for Navigation

   Use the transcription feature to skip to specific parts of the video efficiently.

   

Speaker labels in transcripts

When speaker identification is enabled for your account, newly processed recordings can separate the transcript by speaker. Zight shows anonymous labels such as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2 when the speaker changes; it does not identify participants by name.

• Speaker labels appear automatically when the audio processing service can distinguish speakers.
• If a section cannot be attributed, it may be labeled Unknown speaker.
• Downloaded or displayed captions can include the same speaker labels.
• There is no separate viewer setting to turn speaker labels on or rename speakers.

Speaker labels are created during transcription processing. Existing transcripts are not automatically reprocessed, and recordings where no speaker can be distinguished may show a transcript without speaker labels.

• Regularly check your email for transcription notifications to enable captions as soon as they are available.
• Use captions to enhance video accessibility for non-native English speakers.
• Embed videos with captions in your help center or website to reach a broader audience.

Troubleshooting

• Transcription request not processing → Ensure you are logged into a Scale account or have a plan that has AI included (Create, Collaborate or Scale).
• Captions not displaying → Refresh the Zight viewer or check your email for the transcription completion notification.

Skip filler words and silences during playback

If AI Playback is available for a video, its owner can shorten the viewing experience without changing the original media file.

1. Open the video in the Zight viewer.
2. Open AI Actions. Under AI Playback, select Skip Filler Words, Skip Silences, or both.
3. Use the detected counts and effective runtime shown in the panel to review what will be skipped.
4. Play the video. Zight seeks past the detected ranges during playback.

The owner’s selections are saved, remain enabled after a reload, and apply when other people watch the shared video. If Zight detects no filler words or no silences, the corresponding option is disabled.

Note: These controls change playback only. They do not edit, trim, transcode, download, or export a shortened copy of the original video.
